How to increase decimal places from 2 to 4 in Ax 2009 in all forms(Purchasing, Selling, Items movement and costing e.t.c)
I need urgent help on this..
Can you please provide more details on what exactly you mean of deceimal places do you mean real fields decemial placeses???
I'm using a swedish version so the menu names could be wrong.
Basic-Settings-Units, chose the decimal places you like for each unit.
@ Mr. Yousef and Henke
For example we enter cost amount in Movement Journal of Inventory but it is upto 2 decimals i want to increase it to 4 in the system where ever the cost of the item is entered and more over the impact of it in the system shall be available in 4 decimal places as well.
Due to the many data types and the extendings it is not recommended to increase the standard decimal places. Troughout the whole system base types are used in coding.
When specifying a price u can also specify the price unit. If you need a cost price of 3.5436. You can specifiy a price of 354.36 per 100.
If you still want to adjust the decimal places you have to take a deep look in the sructure of extended data type and probably have to change lot of coding. We tried to do it some years ago but found too much disadvantages.
I am having the same issue on decimal places.
is this function Modify Data Type (under
Administration>Setup>System>Modify Data Type) which allows
user to change the amount decimal places (user defined). I don't
however understand the rationale, while it allow user to modify the
amount length and amount decimal place in the table, the amount field
in journal window do not follow the setting performed in the Modify
Data Type window but, the other data type (e.g. account length) accepts
the changes in both window and table.
Don't you think this is a product bug?

The decimal amounts being displayed for example like journals, bank accounts, etc. is dependent upon the Regional Settings of your computer. If you increase the decimal to 4 on your Windows Settings, after you restart AX you will see the change the display on the decimals.
For one of our customers, we had setup the decimal precision up to four decimals for the UOMs (sales unit, inventory unit etc) and later we had an issue while processing the product return. By default AX shows inventory up to 2 decimal places in GUI (not sure if we can change this behavior as well) and hence I assume it is advisable to set up decimal precision up to 2 decimal places as well. Is my assumption correct or?
Not really correct, no. If you intend to change decimal places, it is your, and your developers' responsibility to find all places that uses that EDT/table field, rounding rule, or any pieces of code that does hardcoded rounding, then change it, so your system does not break.
Generally speaking, decimal places can be changed just fine, you have to do it the right way though.
