Quantity confirmation when picking serial items

Hi All

I am hoping for some help regarding serialised item picking via the warehouse management app on a mobile device.

We are using two tracking dimension groups, "serial" and "none". For the serial tracking dimension we have "Serial number control" checked which I believe prevents having duplicate serial numbers for the same item, effectively ensuring every serial item has a quantity of 1. Serial numbers are loaded via an ASN file before delivery and are registered/received at delivery into the warehouse

When we are interacting (picking, moving, cycle counting etc) with serial items via the warehouse management app we are prompted to enter the serial number and are then prompted to confirm the quantity which is always invariably 1. This step seems redundant considering we have checked the "serial number control" option within the tracking dimension ensuring there will be no more than one item per serial number

We are often picking close to 100 serial items within one transfer order with 30-40 transfer orders per day (which need to be serial tracked so blank issue will not work for us). Cycle counting can involve having to scan hundreds of serial numbers per location. Having to confirm the quantity for each serial number significantly increases the amount of inputs required to complete the task, negatively impacting the user experience.

Is it possible to turn this quantity confirmation off - without using the blank issue option ?

Hopefully I have sufficiently explained the issue/scenario !

Kind regards
Freddie

    Hi Sagar

Thanks for the response. For your cycle counting proposal, this won't work for us unfortunately as most of our serialised items have a high quantity in a single location and your suggestion would mean we'd have to find each serial number that is displayed on the screen before confirming the quantity of 1. This isn't feasible when there are potentially hundreds of items in a single location, which may not be physically positioned in the same order that is displayed on the handheld (some of our serial numbers do not run sequentially)

Regarding your second post about picking - Here is the set up for the MDMI for picking:

Here is the work confirmation :

On further testing, I believe Peter's suggestion about work confirmation will resolve our issues when picking. This has removed the requirement to confirm the quantity after each serial number. I thought we wouldn't be able to part pick non serialised items into a licence plate as the quantity confirmation was removed, however using the "full" option we can part pick into an LP

    Hi

Can you share your mobile menu setup screenshot as I need to check how come it is asking you to enter qty after scanning serial. In my case below where I am picking a transfer order for serial item, I am only scanning serial number, and it takes the qty as 1. See below

    Hi

For cycle counting it is possible to avoid scanning serial number and you only enter the qty you counted. This way you are only entering the qty you counted and are not doing 2 things 1 - Scanning serial and 2 - Enter qty counted.

See below on how this can be achieved

Below you can see that I am only entering the qty counted and I am not scanning any serial numbers as they are already displayed.

It is not advisable to display the dimensions but in cases where it makes sense it is ok to use the same. I would also like to share that there is a reason why you need to enter the qty counted as in case you want to report a serial number missing on a location you need to enter qty 0. That is entering qty is the most important step and cannot be skipped for counting. You also need to think about negative scenario.

    Hi Peter

Thanks for the response! I've had a look and this works in some ways for picking however ideally we'd only want this to apply to the serialised items rather than all items, our transfer orders contain a mixture of serialised and non serialised items

I've tried to apply a similar logic to the cycle count menu item but no success so far. Cycle counting is where we are seeing more of an issue in terms of user experience. We have the following settings for the cycle count MDMI

Which saves entering each serial number if the quantity is correct, however when the count does not match and I'm prompted to enter each serial number, I have to confirm the quantity (of 1) for each serial number. Some of our locations contain 400+ uniquely serialised items which when you have to select the number 1 and click confirm it adds considerable time to process. So far I've not found anything that will allow me to remove this step

here are some screenshots of the steps

This is the step i am hoping to remove, where you must select 1 and then tick in the bottom right

    Hi Freddie!
Have you tried to set the work confirmation?
Go to Warehouse management - Setup - Mobile device - Mobile device menu items

Choose the menu item you whant to test without confirmation and click "Work confirmation setup" button on the top:

Click "Edit" and turn off the "Quantity confirmation" checkbox. Then try to make the operation.
