In Dynamics 365 (D365), anticipating planned production orders to saturate resource capacity involves several setups and functionalities: 1. Calendar and Resource Setup:
Working time templates: Define available times for production scheduling.
Calendars: Define available working days for production scheduling.
Resource groups: Group operations resources for a clear overview of free capacity when scheduling.
Resources: Define resources involved in the production process for capacity planning.
2. Production Parameters Setup:
Production control parameters: Set parameters for production order creation, estimation, scheduling, and consumption.
Production journal names: Specify journal names used to record and post production transactions.
Operations: Define specific activities required to produce the finished product.
3. Master Planning:
Master scheduling: Generate planned production orders based on forecasted demand and inventory levels.
Finite capacity scheduling: Schedule production orders considering resource availability and capacity constraints.
Capacity planning: Analyze resource capacity and identify potential bottlenecks before production.
4. Capacity Management Functionalities:
Resource scheduling: Schedule production orders to specific resources and time slots.
Load leveling: Distribute production workload evenly across resources to avoid overloading.
Capacity reservations: Reserve specific resource capacity for critical production orders.
Shop floor control: Monitor production progress and react to real-time changes in capacity availability.
Additional Considerations:
Lead times: Account for lead times for material procurement and production execution.
Safety stock: Maintain sufficient safety stock to buffer against unexpected demand fluctuations.
Flexibility: Build flexibility into production plans to adapt to changing circumstances.
By implementing these setups and functionalities, you can anticipate planned production orders and efficiently utilize resources to maximize capacity utilization.
Hi, Finite capacity is an approach that helps you understand how much work can be produced during a specific period when limitations on different resources are taken into consideration. If capacity isn't available to meet the optimal schedule, the system will try to require component items on an earlier date. To use the finite capacity function, you can try to set the following: Activate Master planning parameters:
Go to Master planning > Setup > Master planning parameters. On the Planned orders tab, in the Capacity planning section, set the Production option to Yes. Activate a master plan: 1.Go to Master planning > Setup > Plans > Master plans. 2.In the list pane, select a master plan that you want to set up to use finite capacity planning and scheduling. 3.On the General FastTab, in the Planned production orders section, set the Finite capacity option to Yes. 4.Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each additional master plan that you want to set up. Activate resources: 1.Go to Production control > Setup > Resources > Resources. 2.In the list pane, select a resource that you want to set up to use finite capacity planning and scheduling. 3.On the Operation FastTab, in the Capacity button section, set the Finite capacity option to Yes. 4.Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each additional resource that you want to set up.
