What will be the solution for tubes (or iron rods). we buy 1000 iron rods,  each Rod have  a length of 6 meters.

while using it the factory we cut these rods, how can i track the remaining cuts.

shall i create batch for every remaining length (6m, 5m, 4m, 3m, 2m, 1m)  ?  if yes, how to manage and transfer quantities from batch to another.  ie if a rod length 5m i cut from it 1 meter, the remaining is 4meters it should be moved to the batch of the 4m!!

or there is another solution?

    RE: UOM meters and pieces

    Hi FinOps!

If you want to track the length for each tube you will need 1000 batches. Remaining length will not move from batch to batch, each batch will have own "lifecycle" from 6 meters to 0. For example, if batch A1 has on-hand quantity 6 meters, after consumption of 2 meters in production, the on-hand of batch A1 will be 4 meters. After next consumption of 1 meter, in the on-hand will be batch A1 with quantity 3 meters.

If you don't want to have batches for tracking length in each tube, you can use unit conversion for calculation meters. In this case you can use Unit conversion for the item (Released products / button Unit conversions on the Product tab), and use Inter-class conversion for meters and ea. You will have 1 ea = 6 meters, with rounding Up.

By the way, if you are using the item for consumption in production, it is impossible to use Catch weight unit functionality in this case, because you can't use such items in BOM lines.

    Regards,

    Hanna
